Putzmeister America, Inc. (Putzmeister) will introduce its new 47Z-Meter Truck-Mounted Concrete Boom Pump at the World of Concrete trade show in January 2017. The innovative pump will feature a new design for its pedestal and five-section boom for increased maneuverability, reduced overall weight, and a more user-friendly design. The updated model is also easier and more affordable to service and offers a variety of new options for custom enhancements.

The five-section boom on the new 47Z-Meter provides increased flexibility and boom a reach of 134 feet 10 inches (41.1 m) horizontal, 151 feet 3 inches (46.1 m) vertical. As an added safety precaution, a new boom rest switch will help ensure the boom is fully stowed prior to driving.

“The 47Z is one of our more popular models because it can adapt to both large and small jobs,” said Bill Dwyer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Putzmeister. “We’re excited to offer customers the latest innovations on this machine, which now incorporates many of the same improvements we’ve made to the other boom pumps in our next generation of engineering.”

The new design also features a more robust pedestal with a sub-frame that has bolted connections, allowing for greater flexibility. By adjusting to torsion from the force of the pump, the life of the pump is increased, while the chance for downtime is reduced. Although the frame is more robust, the gross vehicle weight has been reduced to less than 70,000 pounds (31,752 kg), enabling easier road permitting throughout North America.

Another significant change in the design of the new 47Z is an improved pipe layout and an increased parts commonality between components of the pipe system. As with other models in Putzmeister’s line of next generation boom pumps, the 47Z incorporates multiple outrigger leg improvements, including four identical screwed-on support cylinders with maintenance-free leg bolts, and, which can be replaced in the field. Its manual outrigger control valves have also been re-orientated for more ergonomic horizontal operation.

“Our engineering team has analyzed every aspect of the previous design and searched for ways to improve upon its performance and usability,” said John Roberts, Putzmeister’s Engineering Director. “We take pride in providing our customers with the latest and greatest innovations in the industry.”

The 47Z also features the RS 909 Hopper, which offers a more robust, yet lightweight, design and promises an increased service life. For added safety, the RS 909 hopper incorporates an RFID safety switch, preventing it from operating with the grate open and incorporating zero moving parts, while using the same advanced sensor technology shown to be effective and reliable in other Putzmeister systems. The new model has a fold-down ergonomic work step, making it safer and easier to clean and maintain the hopper.

The pump’s Ergonic® System, which comes standard, features wireless computer technology and a Ergonic Graphic Display with high resolution, color screen, contributing to the pump’s enhanced usability. This main control system allows the operator to set parameters that control the boom, pump, and a variety of other functions, ultimately increasing the convenience, performance and overall ease-of-use of the machine. Also improving usability, all work lights on the 47Z are LED for a longer life and lower cost of operation. The LED lights illuminate the boom pump and its working area for enhanced safety and operator control.

The 47Z’s new hydraulic system has an improved filtration system, uses less oil, and has fewer parts than the previous system. The cooling fans have been moved away from the core-pump heat source and into the outrigger leg for improved cooling. It also produces cleaner oil, which improves pump functioning and reduces maintenance intervals. The machine is available with either the .16H or .18HLS pump cell.

As with every Putzmeister concrete boom pump, the new 47Z meets all ASME B30.27-2009 Safety standards and was produced in Putzmeister’s ISO 9001:2008 quality-certified Sturtevant, Wis. facility. The 47Z-Meter Truck-Mounted Concrete Boom Pump is available for immediate order.
