Putzmeister America, Inc. (Putzmeister) has partnered with Advanced Emissions Control Solutions (AECS) to create a system to help control emissions from vessels at berth, following stricter government regulations at California ports.

The Advanced Maritime Emissions Control System, which was introduced this summer at the Port of Long Beach, consists of a barge-mounted Putzmeister MX 43/47Z Placing Boom that meets ships out in the water before they reach port. Instead of pipe, an exhaust system is attached to the boom, which is then maneuvered over the ship’s exhaust. The new system, which was recently approved by the government, captures more than 94 percent of emissions.

“We worked closely with AECS to create this emission-reducing solution for ships at California ports,” said Tom Redding, western regional sales manager for Putzmeister. “The new system is proving to be extremely successful. We anticipate it being used at ports throughout California, and eventually all over the United States and world.”
