Multiple New Features Enhance Putzmeister America, Inc. Boom Pump LineOn-Board Hydraulic Oil Dehydrator/Filter, Hydraulic Quick Disconnect and Squeeze Valve debut at the World of Concrete 2009
STURTEVANT, WI (February 16, 2009) – Putzmeister America, Inc. announces several standard and optional features for its truck-mounted concrete boom pumps. The new features include an On-Board Hydraulic Oil Dehydrator/Filter, Hydraulic Quick Disconnect for detach booms, a Squeeze Valve accessory and its exclusive Ergonic® technology.
“Each of these features further demonstrates Putzmeister’s commitment to technology that puts our customers first,” says Bill Dwyer, Vice President – Sales & Marketing for Putzmeister America. “Our goal is providing operators with greater control and confidence to get a job done safely and efficiently.”
On-board Hydraulic Oil Dehydrator/Filter
As explained in Putzmeister’s educational resources, water in hydraulic oil has multiple sources and can be present as a result of ambient humidity, splash water and water ingested past hydraulic seals on cylinders. Water in hydraulic oil promotes degradation and accelerates aging. Water in a hydraulic system will increase cavitation and foaming as well as reduce lubrication, resulting in costly component wear, maintenance and failure.
“Putzmeister’s new On-board Hydraulic Oil Dehydrator/Filter is specifically designed to efficiently remove water and keep the oil in optimum condition,” says Dwyer. “It is integrated directly into the boom pump and operates continuously while the chassis is running if activated by a dedicated switch in the cab. Pumping operation maintains enough heat in the oil for proper dehydration.”
Unlike other systems, Putzmeister’s dehydrator/filter uses dry chassis air as opposed to expensive removable cartridges to affordably eliminate the negative effects of water in hydraulic oil. It is an optional feature for all Putzmeister truck-mounted concrete boom pumps.
Hydraulic Quick Disconnect
Further enhancing the speed and efficiency of moving Putzmeister’s detach placing booms from truck to tower, the new Hydraulic Quick Disconnect System is standard on all Series II Detach boom kits.
“This system allows the operator to couple and uncouple multiple hydraulic hoses simultaneously in one simple motion,” notes Dwyer. “Previously, several hydraulic hoses had to be manually coupled and uncoupled. The new system saves our customers time and allows them to setup quickly to meet tight job site deadlines.
Hose bundles on the boom and pedestal are attached to coupling plates. The operator simply connects the plates and engages a lever to connect the hydraulics.
The Series II Detach boom kit provides the contractor the quickest and easiest truck to tower conversion. For the owner, it maximizes the capabilities of truck-mounted booms and provides added ways of generating revenue.
Putzmeister offers a range of detachable booms, which fit any Putzmeister pedestal and Pin Tower System. In addition, Putzmeister offers the greatest number of mounting and climbing configurations in the placing boom industry.
Ergonic® Modular Control Box
Initially debuted as a standard on the 63Z-Meter pump in early 2005, Putzmeister’s exclusive Ergonic® technology is now standard on all models 31-meters and up. This technology allows the operator to set parameters that control the boom, the pump and many other operational functions and is housed in an easily accessible single Modular Control Box (MBC).
Integral to Ergonic Pump Control System (EPS), Ergonic Output Control (EOC) reduces fuel consumption, wear and noise. EOC automatically adjusts the engine speed to the minimum for the output required. Ergonic also puts the operator in control of success with the three-inch square LCD Ergonic Graphic Display (EGD) screen.
Simple to use, this EGD gives the pump operator a quick and clear visual display of important machine information as well as the ability to set individual pumping parameters.
Other modules included in the Ergonic system are Ergonic Boom Control (EBC) with OneTouch™ and Ergonic Tele Service (ETS) which offers remote diagnosis of the unit operation in the field, and are other exclusive technological features.
An optional purchase with Putzmeister’s boom pumps or as an accessory after the sale, the pneumatically-operated Squeeze Valve prevents concrete from leaving the end hose when the operator repositions the boom on site. It can be placed in different locations on the end hose and provides a tight seal.
“You simply pull the rubber valve over the end hose,” says Ian Moore, Vice President – Customer Support for Putzmeister America. “It’s a compressed air-operated valve from the outside-in which will prevent wear on the end hose.”
The Putzmeister Squeeze Valve has an outside diameter measuring 7" (180mm) and an internal diameter of 5" (125mm). This accessory is available through the Putzmeister Parts Department at 1-800-890-0269.
