Highly Abrasion-Resistant Back-End Kit Offered on Putzmeister Concrete Boom Pumps

Putzmeister America now offers an abrasion-resistant back-end kit for all core concrete boom pump models in its 24- to 58-meter lineup. The four-piece kit is designed to reduce the cost and downtime caused by frequent back-end pipe and elbow changeovers.

As selective components — especially elbows and reducers — exhibit greater wear, changeovers are a periodic necessity. Hard facing of targeted wear areas can prolong back-end life to some degree. However, using Chrome Carbide Insert (CCI) technology, the kit's inserts provide abrasion resistance throughout the "entire" internal surface of the components to optimize back-end wear performance.

The complete back-end kit concept is an outgrowth of ConForms' CCI-lined boom elbow, field-proven on Putzmeister pumps for several years. With the new kit, the CCI-lined elbow segments are also specifically cast with a 3/8-inch (1.0cm) CCI wall thickness, where maximum wear occurs.

The four-piece package includes components for all critical pump back-end areas including (1) the CCI-lined 90-degree 7- to 6-inch (17.8 to 15.2cm) reducing elbow, (2) CCI-lined 90-degree 6-inch elbow, (3) CCI-lined 6- to 4.8-inch (15.2 to 12.2cm) straight reducer, and (4) CCI-lined 45-degree 4.8-inch elbow.

Customers can order the optional kit with new pump orders or call the Putzmeister parts department to retrofit existing units. When replacing all four components at the next back-end change, it is projected that boom pump owners can almost recover the initial kit cost by eliminating just one changeover cycle.
