A Platinum Year for Thom-Katts®
A Platinum Year for Thom-Katts®Thom-Katts Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Ongoing Product Excellence
At this year's World of Concrete, Thom-Katt trailer-mounted concrete pumps celebrated their 20th anniversary since the first production unit left the Putzmeister America facility in 1982. A 20-year anniversary today is associated with platinum, and this is also symbolic of the Thom-Katts' leadership role over the years.
"I delivered the very first Thom-Katt produced 20 years ago," said Dave Rudin, Putzmeister's Product Line Manager - Thom-Katts® and Mortar Machines. "Since that time, the pumps have gotten better and more reliable because of the company's ongoing commitment to advancing product technology."
In conjunction with the two-decade anniversary, Putzmeister took its big boom pump expertise and further applied it to Thom-Katts. Models ranging from 40- to 100-cubic-yards-an-hour (30 to 77m3/hr) outputs with pressures up to 1,500 psi (103 bar) were enhanced accordingly.
As a result, these American-engineered Katts have now evolved as a new breed with more rugged material, hydraulic cylinders and a specially designed hopper. The hopper's new dynamic shape eliminates difficult clean-out areas so a steady continuous flow can better funnel down the angled hopper sides. Plus, it makes clean up easier.

Other recent improvements include proximity switches in the hydraulic cylinders instead of the water box. This eliminates the possibility of "short stroking" and offers parts commonality with the boom pumps.
The same high performance features customers have come to expect are still included as standard equipment on these Putzmeister units. These include its proven reliable S-valve, smooth twin-shifting cylinders, and electric cycling for reversibility at any point in the stroke. In addition, the unit's wide frame still promotes better towing stability, a large fuel tank keeps offering longer continuous operation, and the hydraulic componentry continues to be mounted atop the oil tank for easy access when servicing the pump.
The smallest model, the TK 15HP with its 15-cubic-yard (11m3/hr) output, is a specialty version within the Thom-Katt range; and therefore, different features apply.
